Land of theaters and fortresses, the province of Pesaro and Urbino offers numerous cultural turistic itineraries discovering little gem of ancient beauty. This land have been scenery of different historical periods, starting from Fano with his roman walls and the Arch of emperor Augusto, historical ruins of the roman foundation; in the hinterland, Urbino stands out on the hills with his Ducal Palace, symbol of the Renaissance in the world. In Pesaro you can see the Rocca Costanza a fortress of XV century and visit the native house of the famous composer Rossini. Other different fortresses and castles are spread around the province of Pesaro and Urbino: Gradara, Mombaroccio, Mondavio, Sassocorvaro where you can breath an antique atmosphere. This land is also rich of ancient theaters you can find for example in Cagli, Piandimeleto, Urbania and Macerata Feltria.
From the sea to the Appennini Mountains, the landscape of the province of Pesaro e Urbino is extremely varied and rich. The adriatic coast presents rocky and sandy beaches, with some areas perfectly equipped and others more wild and isolated. All these beaches have been awarded with the Blue Flag for their high standards of cleanliness. You can enjoy the pleasure of the sea in many different ways: diving, doing boat trips, windsurfing, kayaking, playing volleyball or beach tennis or simply lying in the sun. Going south, you can find lovely tiny harbors like the Vallugola one close to Romagna, or Fano harbor. The hinterland surprises the visitor with three wonderful natural parks: the Natural Park of Monte San Bartolo a cliff overlooking the sea, the Natural Park of Sasso Simone e Simoncello in the heart of Montefeltro and the natural reserve of Gola del Furlo, a real canyon in the rock, treasure of flora and fauna, a perfect place for walking or bike tour.
Many food products grow in this land. Truffles white or black, Scorzone and Marzuolo quality available all year long in his land of origin Sant’Angelo in Vado and Acqualagna where periodically take place faires and festivals dedicated to this noble product. Mushrooms are another important pull factor for researchers and curious people. The sea is a big source of food products like sardoncini scottadito (gratineed anchovies) and the brodetto di pesce (fish soup) king of seafood cuisine of Fano where every year occurs a famous festival. Don’t miss the tagliatelle with beans sauce, typcal of the hinterland, as well as some chees: Casciotta di Urbino DOP and Pecorino di Fossa. Among the local DOC wines those recommended are Bianchello del Metauro, Colli Pesaresi and the sour cherry wine of Pergola. Moretta Fanese is a typical way to serve coffee in Fano, specifically it’s a coffee “corretto” mixed with different types of liquors; this specialty was created by the sailormen who needed to get warm before facing the sea.
